Callers are claiming to be from the ‘fraud squad’ in London, investigating financial organisations.
The callers are posing as fraud investigators, requesting personal details and asking people to withdraw large amounts of money.
Legitimate investigators from the Serious Fraud Office do not call themselves fraud squad officers and will never request personal details or ask you to withdraw money. They will only ever communicate with you:
- By telephone
- In writing, on official headed note paper
- By email, from someone with ‘@sfo.gsi.gov.uk’ as part of their email address
- By fax, on official headed notepaper
For further advice on what to do if you are concerned about the authenticity of a caller, visit the SFO website.
