Magazine advert scam

People are being warned about bogus telephone callers offering the chance buy some space in a police publication, Think Magazine.

The caller claims to be someone working for the local police. Would-be advertisers are being warned not to part with any money when receiving phone calls such as these. Anyone who is unsure should call the publication in question on a known, legitimate telephone number.

Beware of bogus callers offering advertising

This scam has recently been reported by Durham Constabulary. Both Darlington Council’s Trading Standards and Durham Constabulary have confirmed that these calls are not genuine.

Durham Constabulary has advised that companies working on its behalf would call in person carrying authorization. They are urging people to be on their guard when contacted to buy into advertising or sponsorship via unsolicited callers.
